New Poll

A new poll! Remember those? Isn’t this exciting? Are you excited? Because I’m excited, I’ve never been so excited except CHECK OUT THE RESULTS FOR THE OLD POLL!

Best secret level?
Birdland 6 votes (13%)
Medivo (JJ1) 5 votes (10%)
Technoir 0 vote (0%)
Scraparap 1 vote (2%)
Nippius 2 votes (4%)
Marbelara 0 vote (0%)
Battleships 4 votes (8%)
Industrius 2 votes (4%)
Stonar 0 vote (0%)
Deserto 6 votes (13%)
Holidaius 0 vote (0%)
Candion 2 votes (4%)
Return of Birdland 7 votes (15%)
Far Out 1 vote (2%)
DiamSecr 0 vote (0%)
Tube3 6 votes (13%)
Gargoyle's Lair 4 votes (8%)
Total votes: 46

It looks like people really like secret levels where you morph into another creature! Obviously quite a few jokers expressed a preference for Tube3, but I’m slightly more hesitant to attribute the Medivo (JJ1) votes to blatant lies… dunno. I would say that this or that secret level needs more love, but I honestly can’t remember anything at all about the Stonar one right now, so maybe your mistrust is well placed. Except for DiamSecr, I mean.

Anyhow! We here in the world of people who have played games before give JJA its share of flak, but it’s not the only less than perfect entry in the franchise. Do its ripped graphics and slow speed win your heart? Or are you fonder of the buggy experience that is the illegal JJ3 alpha? Are you forever drawn to the JJ2 Castle soundtrack played over Jazz blowing up snakes in a grassy field? Or do you really really enjoy green snowy menus? Which is the best also-ran playable experience?

This poll kept me thinking for a while..

It was either JJ2 Christmas Chronicles or JJGBA. CC has some value to me as back in the days that large box with cool JJ Xmas art sitting in the chaotic ‘Bart Smit’ shelves basically made me return to Jazz and truly experience what the game and JCS can do. xD

On the other side, I liked JJGBA from the moment I bought it in 2003. Probably way more than the average Jazz fan ‘liked’ it.

My vote still went to CC though, just for historical value or whatever you’d call that expression. :P

If you never got Christmas Chronicles for Christmas and then beat it the same day… then you’ve never experienced Christmas magic.

Amen, cooba. Amen.

It was a tossup for me between CC and the JJ3D alpha, since these are the only two I’ve actually played and I dearly love them both, but I ultimately went with the JJ3D playable alpha because, as limited and glitchy as it is, it was still very fun to play because of the thrill of conquering its challenging and smartly-built levels. There was also a certain mystique about the game, a “coolness” that made it an exciting and quite enjoyable gaming experience.

Plus, I made (or attempted to make) some pretty sweet levels with the Unreal Editor. :P

Love the icon

The point of including Christmas Chronicles, in case it’s not clear, is that it’s a reused engine with reused levels and the menu is really the only new thing about it. Obviously that means less if you get Christmas Chronicles without first getting HH98 and/or TSF, but still.

I voted for JJGBA. My little brother bought it and we both played it for hours on-end, multiplayer as well. It was a good, solid game. Perhaps it wasn’t a JJ game like we were used to, but as Pako once said:

“Jazz Jackrabbit Advance gave us everything we asked for. Clothes for Jazz, different guns (not different ammo for the same gun) and a story. Why are we complaining?”

Hare on 14 Oct 2012 at 14:16

The multiplayer was actually fun if you could find someone to link up with. The gunplay was kind of “blech” though.

I voted for CC99, the reason is that although I did own JJA at one point, I barely remember it(Similar story with JJ3D).
And I did play the Twin-Stick Shooter Demo, and it was pretty good, but it wasn’t as fun as CC99.
So, I chose CC99.

Man, I really miss Pako (see what I did there?)

AS for the first poll… I think Diamondus’s secret level won cuz that’s the only one people knew how to consistently get to :P Although being a bird is cool for change…

As for the new poll, all those games suck so horrible, I had to vote for the Christmas Chronicles because they provided us when some pretty tilesets and they were an entertaining experience for a $10 CD-ROM.

Violet CLM on 23 Oct 2012 at 02:40

But Labrat’s won, and there isn’t actually a way to access it (from ingame) at all.
